We Are One
To complete this Mongolian-inspired sculpture in just two weeks for Robert Comstock, I began by constructing the base and stand using TIG-welded steel. The headdress was created by TIG welding electroplated copper wings around a hollow steel box form, also TIG welded, which served as the foundation for the face. To transform the head into an eagle, I used a copper electroplated 3D-printed bird as a structural element and incorporated deer antlers to enhance the overall look. The woman’s face on the circular steel form was shaped from annealed steel rod and meticulously TIG welded into place. For the headdress mounting, I welded the copper wings directly to the structure and positioned the eagle head within a circular framework of TIG-welded steel wire, which also helped define the facial features. Vintage wood elements were cut, routed, and placed atop the pillar to create a seamless transition from the base to the headdress. |
